How To Love The Neighbors You Loathe

Love or hate, those neighbors share similar space with you. In the spirit of Valentines’ Day, Truckie wanted to help our community solve issues. Small spaces can be great spaces with a little communication :]

Problem-Ever stayed up late because the wall you share with your neighbor(s) is louder than a Saturday night in Little Five Points? We know. Losing sleep is the worst possible torture a family can ever endure.

Solution- Ask the neighborhood association, leasing office or landlords to talk with your noisy neighbors. If your family continues to have an issue, ask the neighborhood authorities to step in.

valentines-2
Truckie enjoys long walks on the beach, a tall glass of sweet tea and giving love letters to his valentines

Problem– Can’t figure out if the people across the way are friendly? Do they have your best interests?

Solution- Invite them to lunch or dinner at Beetle Cat. Good food and good company will help you get to know the neighbors better.

Problem– Kids or pets running wild in the neighborhood, floor above your place or all over your yard.

Solution- Make sure your subdivision, complex or community has a recreation area for kids of all ages. Pool(s), basketball or tennis courts, playground(s) and a trail or two work wonders.

Big Game Preview

ICYMI: The Falcons are playing in the biggest football game of the year!

283-falcons-twitter

Our hometown Falcons are playing  on Sunday night against the New England Patriots. The historical difference between the two franchises couldn’t be starker. Since 2001 (Tom Brady’s first year as starter), the Patriots have been undoubtedly the best team in the NFL. This year will be the Pats 7th appearance in the big game since ’01, winning 4 of the first 6. Brady and Bill Belichick will (probably) go down as the best quarterback-head coach duo of all time. On the other hand, this will be the Falcons second big game appearance in franchise history, losing their only other 34-19 to John Elway and the Broncos in 1999. The most telling stat that portrays the history of the Falcons is that it took them over 40 years (!) to have their first back-to-back winning seasons, which almost seems impossible. And that’s what makes this game such an appealing match up. It’s the ultimate dynasty vs. a historical loser. Arguably the best head coach of all time vs. a second year head coach (Dan Quinn). THE Golden Boy (Brady) vs. a nerdy, soft-spoken MVP (Matt Ryan).

The thing is… none of that matters. If you listen to mainstream sports media they’ll talk about ‘experience’ or ‘they know what it takes to win a championship’ while describing New England, and the truth is that’s not an actual advantage that matters. Sure, the lights are brighter and the whole world will be watching, but it’s the same exact game the Falcons players have been playing their entire lives nothing is different. It’s the 2016 Patriots vs. the 2016 Falcons and that’s the only factor that means anything.

It’s the Falcon’s time. It’s Atlanta’s moment. It’s about time for a new dynasty.

SCORE PREDICTION: FALCONS – 31 PATRIOTS – 27

Movers For Mutts in Chamblee

capture

Two Men and a Truck believes that you must give back to your community to have a positive impact on it. That’s why we ran our Movers for Mutts charity campaign in the Summer and Fall, and the results were nothing short of remarkable. We teamed up with Park Pet Supply, Taj Ma-Hound and VCA Pets Are People Too Animal Hospital. From day one these sponsors were vital to the success of the campaign. We delivered a donation bin/barrel to all the locations and we were constantly going back to pick up donations because they were always full. Between our three sponsors we raised 3,002 items, which all went towards benefitting Ahimsa House, an organization who links together victims of domestic violence and animal cruelty.

We can’t wait for Movers For Mutts 2K17!!

Fireworks With Friends and Family

NYE 2016 is coming at us fast! If your family is opting to watch fireworks from a distance, at home or in the neighborhood please be careful.

Safety first! Fireworks in the neighborhood are awesome but also very dangerous.

  1. Please light one firework at a time.
  2. Do not re-light “duds.”
  3. Children should not help pickup, discard or light fireworks.
  4. Do not carry fireworks on your person or light them in your hand.
  5. Point fireworks away from homes, cars, people and flammable substances
  6. Do not make your own fireworks.
  7. Soak fireworks in water before discarding.

DeKalb and Brookhaven have similar rules regarding fireworks. According to ACJ.com:

“These are the basics of the Georgia fireworks law, so these are the times you can light up the sky across DeKalb County:

  • On Jan. 1, July 3, July 4 and Dec. 31, fireworks are allowed from 10 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.
  • Fireworks can also be shot off between midnight and 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.
  • On every other day throughout the year, fireworks are allowed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.

But, if you live within the city limits of Brookhaven:

  • Holiday times do not change.
  • Fireworks are allowed until midnight Saturday, July 2, 2016.
  • On every other day throughout the year, you can celebrate later! Fireworks are allowed from 10 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.”

Our Chamblee crew wishes you and yours a fun-filled New Years! See y’all in 2017.

Atlanta Falcons Fans, Can We Get a Witness?

falcons
Georgia Dome

Dirty Birds, Atlanta’s hometown football team, are knuckling down this season. We’ve taken notice at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in Decatur and wanted to show some love!  Our Chamblee staff loves relaxing with family and friends while watching the Falcons put in work on Sundays and Mondays. Happy tailgate season, y’all!

-All thoughts come from our die-hard Falcons fan, Chic-fil-A junkie and weekend zealot, Nick.

falcons-2
Nick and friends with Arthur Blank, Falcons owner.

Our Atlanta Falcons opened their 2016 season with a disappointing home loss to division rival, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Many thought that it was going to be a repeat performance from last year’s fallout. Last year we saw Atlanta go 2-6 in the second half of the season. The Falcons quickly turned it around with wins at Oakland, New Orleans and Denver, while destroying the Carolina Panthers at home. The Panthers game was the coming-out party for this year’s Falcons. In dominating fashion, Atlanta beat the defending division and conference champs 48-33. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones became the first quarterback and wide receiver duo to throw and catch for 500 and 300 yards in NFL history!

As the team heads into week 7, they are widely considered to be one of the best teams in the NFL. Our Atlanta defense is a young group with great individual performance. Atlanta’s newer players Vic Beasley, Keanu Neal, and Deion Jones continue to impress. Falcons fans should be excited about this 2016’s team because of their offense. After 6 games, the Falcons are leading the league in scoring (33.2/game), second in passing yards (329.5/game) and ninth in rushing yards (112/game). The unit’s best player for the past several seasons has been Jones. The Falcons have finally rediscovered a rushing attack this season with the free-agent acquisition of Alex Mack and contributions from Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, who have combined to form one of the best backfields in the NFL.

Y’all, the black jerseys are back. Talk about a throwback!  The color change is sure to bring back old memories of the GA Dome. ITP knows the Dome never disappoints. Nothing like a scenic ride from MARTA into the stadium. If they can maintain their elite offense, anything is possible for the 2016 Atlanta Falcons!

Outdoor Decatur Activities for Kids

The sun is out, the heat is here. Everyone is looking for ways to enjoy the sunshine. Metro Atlanta is a great place to run around, but sometimes the back yard is even better! Tuck these refreshing outdoor activities in your think tank.

  1. Zoo Atlanta’s Splash Pads

Worried your family will overheat during your visit to the Atlanta Zoo? Never fear, the splash pads are here! Similar to Centennial Olympic Park’s water area, but smaller, our Atlanta Zoo offers a nice break from the Georgia heat.

Zoo ATL Splash Pads Two Men and a Truck Woodstock

Do’s

-Bring a towel for each kid

-Take an extra change of clothes

-Remember sunscreen

Don’ts

-Let the kids wear their shoes

-Forget to wipe everyone down

-Forget to wash hands and take a bath after

  1. Take a Wagon Ride Around the Neighborhood

Remember the fun of being pulled in a wagon? Hard to forget the simpler times. Give your kids a break from running around the house by taking them on a walk. Designating a caboose is quintessential for a calm stroll.

Do’s-Make sure everyone is wearing tennis shoes

-Have water in the wagon

Don’ts-Stop and talk to neighbors for long

-Forget to ask the neighbors to join

  1. Chalk It Out

Magic sidewalk chalk can build castles and dragons in your own yard! Never underestimate the power of a drawing contest. Try best shapes, best animal or most colorful to decide who wins today’s chalk contest. Driveway edification can yield hours of free time for adults!

Movers Who Care in Lawrenceville, GA

Do’s

-Grab a few boxes of chalk next time you go grocery shopping

-Throw all the chalk into a basket or cloth tub

Don’ts

-Underestimate the heat. Periodically offer water or ice pops

-Forget to hose the chalk off the kids

  1. Sprinkler Time

When it’s too humid to do anything besides cool off, turn on thesprinkler! Georgia’s heat is one-part sun, three-parts humidity. Might as well water the lawn while the kids have fun. Plus, letting the kids wear themselves out is fun to watch and gives parents more time to get things done.

Do’s

-Lather the kids in sunscreen

-Check the status of the yard (mud vs. grass)

Don’ts

-Forget to have towels ready

-Leave the sprinkler on all day

  1. Fly a Kite

Piedmont Park is a great place to fly kites. With multiple fields, levels and plenty of space for the whole family to run around, Piedmont Park is a crowd favorite. Fourth Ward Park also has a nice soccer field perfect for kite flying. Fourth Ward backs up on the Atlanta Beltline Trail. Consider biking your way to the park for extra site seeing.

Do’s

-Bring scissors in case the string gets tangled

-Wear tennis shoe for quality running

Don’ts

-Forget to inspect the kites before leaving

-Leave your hat or sunglasses at home

  1. Check on the Spring Gardening

Following the growth process of plants can be fun! Make a growth chart for the kids and ask them to measure how tall their favorite plants grew each week. Even though we get a lot of rain in Decatur, sometimes certain plants need more. The children will take pride in the yard once they realize how much fun water jugs can be.

Do’s

-Give each child their own ruler

-Let everyone water different plants

Don’ts

-Forget to utilize gardening hats

-Leave the weeds around plants

  1. Shoot the Hooch

Azalea Park offers more than just a few playgrounds and picnic areas. The Chattahoochee River flows all the way through Metro Atlanta! Using the actual tubing company, Shoot the Hooch is only one  option. Grab a couple over-sized floats and some friends for a day trip on the river. Leave on vehicle at the launch spot and one at the exit dock.

It’s a nice to have the kids fall asleep in the car on the way back home from outdoor adventures! Two Men and a Truck Decatur understands the need to have a little peace and quiet every now and then. Here’s to a fun-filled summer, Decatur!
