Move Tip Tuesday

Ever wonder where everything went? The day after your move boxes are everywhere, your phone is buzzing and settling in is the furthest thing from your mind.  TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Atlanta gathered a few tips for taking it easy after move day:

moving tip.jpg

  1. Toiletries- super important but always ignored. Toothbrush, toothpaste, shower essentials and feminine hygiene products are a great start.
  2. Day of Move Box- think more in the ball park of first-week-in-your-new-home for less headache. Many items will be needed to settle in, use color coding stickies or sharpies.
  3. Include kitchen essentials! We cannot express how important not eating PB&J is for the third night in a row.
  4. Snacks! Your DeKalb moving professionals can take most of the moving pains away from your family but not the hunger pains. Settling in feels great with a snack basket and picnic blanket. You’re welcome.

Fireworks With Friends and Family

NYE 2016 is coming at us fast! If your family is opting to watch fireworks from a distance, at home or in the neighborhood please be careful.

Safety first! Fireworks in the neighborhood are awesome but also very dangerous.

  1. Please light one firework at a time.
  2. Do not re-light “duds.”
  3. Children should not help pickup, discard or light fireworks.
  4. Do not carry fireworks on your person or light them in your hand.
  5. Point fireworks away from homes, cars, people and flammable substances
  6. Do not make your own fireworks.
  7. Soak fireworks in water before discarding.

DeKalb and Brookhaven have similar rules regarding fireworks. According to ACJ.com:

“These are the basics of the Georgia fireworks law, so these are the times you can light up the sky across DeKalb County:

  • On Jan. 1, July 3, July 4 and Dec. 31, fireworks are allowed from 10 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.
  • Fireworks can also be shot off between midnight and 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.
  • On every other day throughout the year, fireworks are allowed from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.

But, if you live within the city limits of Brookhaven:

  • Holiday times do not change.
  • Fireworks are allowed until midnight Saturday, July 2, 2016.
  • On every other day throughout the year, you can celebrate later! Fireworks are allowed from 10 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.”

Our Chamblee crew wishes you and yours a fun-filled New Years! See y’all in 2017.

Outdoor Decatur Activities for Kids

The sun is out, the heat is here. Everyone is looking for ways to enjoy the sunshine. Metro Atlanta is a great place to run around, but sometimes the back yard is even better! Tuck these refreshing outdoor activities in your think tank.

  1. Zoo Atlanta’s Splash Pads

Worried your family will overheat during your visit to the Atlanta Zoo? Never fear, the splash pads are here! Similar to Centennial Olympic Park’s water area, but smaller, our Atlanta Zoo offers a nice break from the Georgia heat.

Do’s

-Bring a towel for each kid

-Take an extra change of clothes

-Remember sunscreen

Don’ts

-Let the kids wear their shoes

-Forget to wipe everyone down

-Forget to wash hands and take a bath after

  1. Take a Wagon Ride Around the Neighborhood

Remember the fun of being pulled in a wagon? Hard to forget the simpler times. Give your kids a break from running around the house by taking them on a walk. Designating a caboose is quintessential for a calm stroll.

Do’s-Make sure everyone is wearing tennis shoes

-Have water in the wagon

Don’ts-Stop and talk to neighbors for long

-Forget to ask the neighbors to join

  1. Chalk It Out

Magic sidewalk chalk can build castles and dragons in your own yard! Never underestimate the power of a drawing contest. Try best shapes, best animal or most colorful to decide who wins today’s chalk contest. Driveway edification can yield hours of free time for adults!

Do’s

-Grab a few boxes of chalk next time you go grocery shopping

-Throw all the chalk into a basket or cloth tub

Don’ts

-Underestimate the heat. Periodically offer water or ice pops

-Forget to hose the chalk off the kids

  1. Sprinkler Time

When it’s too humid to do anything besides cool off, turn on thesprinkler! Georgia’s heat is one-part sun, three-parts humidity. Might as well water the lawn while the kids have fun. Plus, letting the kids wear themselves out is fun to watch and gives parents more time to get things done.

Do’s

-Lather the kids in sunscreen

-Check the status of the yard (mud vs. grass)

Don’ts

-Forget to have towels ready

-Leave the sprinkler on all day

  1. Fly a Kite

Piedmont Park is a great place to fly kites. With multiple fields, levels and plenty of space for the whole family to run around, Piedmont Park is a crowd favorite. Fourth Ward Park also has a nice soccer field perfect for kite flying. Fourth Ward backs up on the Atlanta Beltline Trail. Consider biking your way to the park for extra site seeing.

-Wear tennis shoe for quality running

Don’ts

-Forget to inspect the kites before leaving

  1. Check on the Spring Gardening

Following the growth process of plants can be fun! Make a growth chart for the kids and ask them to measure how tall their favorite plants grew each week. Even though we get a lot of rain in Decatur, sometimes certain plants need more. The children will take pride in the yard once they realize how much fun water jugs can be.

-Let everyone water different plants

Don’ts

  1. Shoot the Hooch

Azalea Park offers more than just a few playgrounds and picnic areas. The Chattahoochee River flows all the way through Metro Atlanta! Using the actual tubing company, Shoot the Hooch is only one  option. Grab a couple over-sized floats and some friends for a day trip on the river. Leave on vehicle at the launch spot and one at the exit dock.
